Wedding Dresses in the Upstate: Designer Bridal at The Castle

The Castle is a family-owned bridal boutique in Spartanburg, South Carolina, twenty-five minutes from downtown Greenville. We’ve been dressing Upstate brides for more than 40 years. Christy, Robin, and our bridal stylists have walked thousands of women through the moment of finding the gown they’ll wear down the aisle, and we know what that experience should feel like.

We work by appointment so every bride gets one-on-one time with a stylist, a private fitting area, and access to our full collection. Saturdays book up fastest, so plan ahead if your weekends are tight.

Why Upstate brides choose The Castle

The Upstate has a lot of bridal boutiques. Here’s what makes us different.

40 years in the same building. We’ve been on W.O. Ezell Boulevard since long before most of the bridal boutiques in Greenville opened their doors. We’ve dressed mothers, then their daughters, and now in some cases their granddaughters. That kind of track record means we’ve seen every trend, every body type, and every budget. We know what a Morilee fits like, what an Allure photographs like, and what a Jessica Angel feels like to wear all day.

Authorized retailer for every designer we carry. No counterfeits, no “inspired by” replicas. When you buy a gown from us, it is exactly what the designer made. We participate in every designer verification program available, and you can confirm our authorized retailer status on each designer’s website.

In-house alterations. Almost every wedding gown needs alterations, often substantial ones (a hem, a bustle, taking in the bodice, sometimes adding or removing sleeves or straps). Our alterations team works on site, in the same building where you bought your gown. There’s no chasing down an outside seamstress who’s never seen a corseted bodice or a beaded bust. Same shop, same people, start to finish, from your first appointment to the day you take your gown home.

Layaway plans for your gown. A wedding gown is a meaningful purchase, and most brides are paying for it while paying for a wedding. Ask us about our payment plan when you find your dress. Securing your gown should feel like a happy decision, not a financial scramble.

Inclusive sizing. Our bridal collection runs sizes 4 through 32. Many bridal boutiques carry a narrow size range and ask plus-size brides to imagine the dress on themselves. We’d rather you try the dress on. Our stylists have the experience and the inventory to find what actually flatters your body, not what might.

Our bridal designers

We carry four bridal labels we’ve curated carefully. Each one fits a different kind of bride and a different kind of wedding day.

Allure Bridals

Allure Bridals is for the bride who wants drama in the best sense of the word. Luxurious fabrics, sculpted bodices, intricate beading and embellishment, and silhouettes that hold their line in every photograph. Allure does ball gowns that look like they belong in a cathedral and fit-and-flare gowns that turn the back of a church into a runway. If you want a gown that arrives in the room before you do, this is your designer.

Morilee by Madeline Gardner

Morilee is the romantic, fairytale designer. Delicate lacework, dreamy ball gowns, soft tulle skirts, and the kind of silhouette that softens under chapel lighting. The brand has earned its reputation as one of the most consistently beautiful bridal collections in the country. If you grew up imagining a wedding dress and the imagined version had lace and a full skirt, Morilee is probably the answer you didn’t know you had a name for.

Madison James

Madison James sits between Allure’s drama and Morilee’s softness. Elegant cuts, timeless silhouettes, soft textures, and just enough sparkle to catch the light during your first dance. The brand is a favorite for brides who want a dress that will photograph beautifully now and still look right in their album twenty years from now. Classic, but never plain.

Jessica Angel

Jessica Angel is the modern option. Stretch-fit fabrics that move with you, sleek silhouettes that hug your shape, and a range of gowns that work just as well for a courthouse ceremony as for a destination wedding on a beach. Jessica Angel is also our most budget-friendly bridal line, which makes it a favorite for brides who’d rather spend their budget on the honeymoon than the gown.

Veils, headpieces, and accessories

We carry veils, headpieces, and bridal accessories in addition to gowns. Trying these on at the same appointment as your dress is more important than most brides realize. A cathedral veil changes the silhouette of a gown completely. So does a fingertip veil, a birdcage, or no veil at all. Bring a hair tie to your appointment, and your stylist will help you see how each option changes the look.

The same applies to headpieces, jewelry, and shoes. We can’t carry every accessory in every style, but we keep a working collection so you can see the full look together. If you’ve already chosen a veil or accessory elsewhere, bring it to your fitting.

Alterations, handled in-house

Buying the gown is one decision. Making it fit you is the next, and that’s where many brides hit unexpected friction when they shop somewhere that doesn’t do alterations on site. You buy a gown elsewhere, then have to find a seamstress who’s worked with beaded bodices, who has the right thread color, who can handle a bustle, and who can deliver on the timeline you actually have.

Our alterations team works in the same building. The team that fit you at your first appointment handles the work through the day you pick up your gown. We do hems, bustles, bodice take-ins and let-outs, strap adjustments, bust work, and minor design changes when the gown allows.

Plan for two to three alterations appointments over the four to eight weeks before your wedding date. Bring the shoes you’ll wear so we can set the hem to the correct length, and bring any undergarments you plan to wear under the gown.

How to plan your bridal appointment

Book your first appointment six to twelve months before your wedding. Most designer gowns take three to four months to come in from the order date, and you’ll want six to eight weeks after that for alterations. If your wedding is closer than that, don’t panic, but call us and we’ll talk through what’s realistic.

Bring the people whose opinions you actually trust. Two or three guests is the right number. Eight people in the room turns a bridal appointment into a focus group, and focus groups produce compromises, not the right dress. Mom, a sister, a best friend, your maid of honor: pick the people who tell you the truth.

Wear nude undergarments and minimal makeup. A strapless bra if you have one. Your hair pulled up loosely or down in the style you’re considering. Heels in the height you’ll likely wear at the wedding.

Bring inspiration, but stay open. Pinterest boards and Instagram saves are useful for showing your stylist what you respond to. But brides often try on the dress they’ve been saving for two years and walk out in something completely different. Both happen here weekly.

Have a budget in mind. Tell us your number when you arrive. We’d rather show you six gowns you can actually buy than have you fall in love with one you can’t. If your budget is tight, ask about our layaway plan.

Use our bridal size chart before you arrive. Designer bridal sizing runs different from street sizing, often by two to four sizes. Knowing your designer size before your appointment saves time and surprises.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment to try on wedding dresses?

Yes. Bridal is appointment-only so every bride gets one-on-one time with a stylist, a private fitting area, and our full attention. Walk-ins for prom or bridesmaids are welcome, but bridal needs to be booked. Schedule your appointment here.

How far in advance should I book my bridal appointment?

For the appointment itself, give us at least two weeks of notice, especially if you want a Saturday. For your wedding planning timeline, book your first bridal appointment six to twelve months before your wedding date. Designer gowns typically take three to four months to arrive, and you’ll want six to eight weeks for alterations.

What sizes do you carry?

Our bridal gowns run sizes 4 through 32. Our stylists are experienced in helping brides of every body type find a gown that fits and flatters.

What is the price range for your wedding dresses?

Most of our bridal gowns fall between $1,000 and $3,500. We have options at both ends of that range and a layaway plan that lets you secure your gown and pay over time. Your stylist will work within your budget once you let us know what it is.

Do you do alterations?

Yes, in-house. The team that fits you at your bridal appointment handles your alterations through pickup. This is one of the most important things to look for in a bridal boutique, because alterations are where most of the fit problems get solved and where most outside seamstresses run into trouble with beaded or corseted gowns.

Do you carry veils and bridal accessories?

Yes. We carry veils, headpieces, and a working selection of bridal accessories so you can try the full look together at your appointment.

How long should I plan for my bridal appointment?

Plan for at least 90 minutes. Appointments begin 30 minutes after we open and must start at least 90 minutes before we close, so build that into your schedule when you book.

Can I bring my mother, my bridesmaids, and other family?

Yes, within reason. Two or three guests is the right number for a productive appointment. Larger groups turn the room into a debate, and the right dress tends to get lost in the noise. Pick the people whose opinions you actually want.
