Designer Prom Dresses in the Upstate: From Greenville to Greer to Spartanburg

We’re The Castle. For over 40 years, we’ve been dressing Upstate prom-goers from Greenville and Greer to Spartanburg and the foothill towns north of us. Christy, Robin, and our stylists know the brands, the schools, and the way prom shopping actually goes around here. If you’re driving down from Inman or up from Mauldin, we’re right off I-85 on W.O. Ezell Blvd.

Walk in any day, Monday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. No appointment needed.

Why Upstate girls drive to The Castle

There are plenty of places to buy a prom dress in the Upstate. Here’s what makes us different.

40 years in one spot. We’ve been in the same Spartanburg location since long before half the high schools in the area existed. We’ve dressed mothers and now their daughters. That kind of track record buys you something. Mostly, it means we know what we’re doing, and we’ll tell you the truth about a dress.

Authorized designer retailer for every label we carry. No knockoffs, no “inspired by” gowns. When you buy a Sherri Hill here, it’s a Sherri Hill. We participate in every designer verification program available. You can confirm us as an authorized retailer on each designer’s site.

We register your dress to your school. Once you buy your dress, no one else from your high school can buy the same style in the same color from us. You walk into prom knowing you’re the only one in your look. This is the single best reason to shop early. The longer you wait, the more styles get claimed.

In-house alterations. Almost every prom dress needs something, whether that’s a hem, a take-in, or a strap adjustment. Our alterations team works on site, in the same building where you bought the dress. There’s no chasing down a tailor across town who’s never seen a Sherri Hill. Same shop, same people, start to finish.

Designer depth, not warehouse volume. We’re a boutique, not a clearance rack. Every dress on our floor is current-season, authorized, and selected because our team believes in it.

Our prom dress designers

We carry five of the most-requested prom labels in the country. Each has its own personality. Here’s how to think about which one is yours.

Sherri Hill

If you’ve scrolled prom on TikTok or Pinterest in the last year, you’ve seen Sherri Hill. The brand drops the dresses that turn heads in every group photo: corseted ball gowns, beaded mermaids, high-slit columns, and structured satins. Bold but never tacky. If you want the dress that gets the most “where did you get that?” texts on Monday morning, this is the rack to head for first. Prices generally run $400 to $1,200.

Ashley Lauren

Ashley Lauren is the brand we steer you toward when you want something different. Think sheer mesh corsets, two-piece sets, and dresses that look like they walked off a pageant stage (a few of them probably will). It’s also one of our most-loved labels among the Miss Dorman and regional pageant girls. Big presence on red carpets, big presence here. The collection generally runs $400 to $900.

La Femme

La Femme is the choice when you want elegant, not extra. Stretch satin, clean lines, beautiful back details, and the kind of cut that fits like it was made for you. La Femme is the dress our stylists pull first when a shopper says she doesn’t want anything too sparkly but still wants to feel like a knockout. Prices reliably fall between $350 and $700.

Alyce Paris

Alyce Paris does colors, prints, and silhouettes that nobody else is doing. Two-piece sets, bold patterns, and fashion-forward cuts. If the safe choice doesn’t sound like you, this is your designer. Pricing typically lands between $300 and $650, which makes it one of the most flexible budget brands we carry without sacrificing the look.

Faviana

Faviana is the “looks expensive without trying” brand. Soft stretch fabrics, flattering cuts that work on a range of body types, and prices that don’t make your mom flinch. Most styles fall between $250 and $500. This is the dress your aunts will compliment without realizing it’s the most comfortable thing you’ve ever worn.

How the dress registry works (and why it matters)

A registry is the difference between feeling great at prom and watching another girl walk in wearing your exact dress.

Here’s how ours works. When you buy a prom dress from us, we register that specific style in that specific color to your specific high school. From that moment on, no one else from your school can buy that style in that color from The Castle. They have to choose a different color, or a different dress.

It’s a small thing that shoppers don’t think about until it’s too late. If you’re a senior, you don’t get a do-over. The earlier you shop, the more of the floor is still open to your school, and the easier it is to find the dress you actually love instead of the one that’s left.

Bring your school name and graduation year to your visit and we’ll register it on the spot.

Alterations, handled in-house

Buying the dress is step one. Making it fit you is step two, and step two is where a lot of prom shoppers get burned. You buy a beautiful gown somewhere else, then you’re scrambling to find an alterations specialist who’s never worked with that designer, doesn’t have the matching thread, and isn’t sure what to do with the corset boning.

We handle alterations on site, in the same building. The same team that fit you when you bought the dress works on the dress through to the day you pick it up. We handle hems, take-ins at the waist, strap adjustments, and bust work. Plan for two to three weeks between your fitting and prom night, and bring the shoes you’ll actually wear that night so we can set the hem right.

If you bought your dress elsewhere and need alterations, give us a call. We can sometimes help, depending on the dress and our team’s schedule.

Practical advice for shopping prom in the Upstate

Start in late summer if you want first pick. Most prom designers drop their main collections in August. By Christmas, the most popular styles are spoken for at most stores. If you’re shopping for a senior prom in the spring, August through October is the sweet spot.

Bring the crew you actually trust. Bring your mom, your best friend, your aunt, or whoever is the most honest with you. Don’t bring eight people. Three is plenty. Anyone who’s going to be on their phone the whole time can stay home.

Wear nude undergarments and minimal makeup. Bring a strapless bra if you have one, and shoes close to the heel height you’ll wear to prom. That saves a lot of guessing.

Have a rough budget, but stay open. Tell us your budget when you walk in. We’d rather show you ten dresses you can afford than have you fall for one you can’t.

Use our prom size chart before you shop. Designer prom sizing runs different from street sizing. A 6 at a designer label is rarely a 6 at the mall. Knowing your designer size before you arrive saves time.

Plan for alterations. Almost every prom dress needs at least one adjustment, usually a hem and sometimes a take-in. We handle alterations in-house, so you don’t need to find a separate tailor. Plan for an extra two to three weeks between purchase and prom night to give our team time to do the work right.

How far away are we, really?

We’re at 1411 W. O. Ezell Blvd, Spartanburg, SC 29301, right off I-85. We’re closer than you might think.

  • From Greer: 12 minutes
  • From Boiling Springs: 10 minutes
  • From Inman or Duncan: 15 minutes
  • From Taylors: 20 minutes
  • From downtown Greenville: 25 minutes
  • From Tryon, NC: 30 minutes
  • From Hendersonville, NC: 45 minutes

If you can get to a Chick-fil-A on I-85 around the Greer or Spartanburg exits, you’re already most of the way to us.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an appointment to shop prom?

No. Walk in any time, Monday through Saturday between 10am and 5pm. Saturdays during peak season (January through April) get busy. If you want more breathing room, weekday afternoons are quieter.

When should I start shopping for prom?

Late summer through early fall is the best time. Designers drop their main collections in August, the floor is fullest then, and your school’s registry is wide open. If you’re shopping in March for a May prom, you’re not too late, but you’ll have fewer options.

Do you carry plus sizes?

Yes. Our prom dresses run sizes 00 through 34, and our stylists are experienced in finding flattering cuts for every body type.

Can I bring my friends?

Yes. Bring the ones whose opinions you actually trust. Two or three guests usually works better than a big group.

Do you do alterations?

Yes, in-house. Our alterations team works on site at the same store you bought the dress from, so the same team that fit you handles the work through to pickup. Plan for two to three weeks between your fitting and prom night, and bring the shoes you’ll wear that night so we can set the hem to the right length.

What if I find the dress somewhere else first?

Then we want to know. We’ll occasionally have it in stock and we’ll save you the drive elsewhere. Call us first at (864) 576-0053.

Do you carry homecoming dresses?

Yes. Many of our shorter prom styles double as homecoming dresses, and we get fresh shorter styles in late summer.
